Custom Replicated URLs

Custom Replicated URLs are basically Affiliate Links that let the people sending your presentation enter their own replicated website address, so closing buttons send viewers to that person's link instead of yours. They fill it in once when they add your presentation, and they never edit the presentation itself.

Who this is for #

Companies whose reps each have their own replicated site or referral link. If a sale has to be tracked to the rep who sent the presentation, this is how you do it without building a separate presentation for every rep.

You can set up to three custom fields per presentation.

Step 1: turn it on in Presentation Info #

Presentation Info appears when you first create a presentation. You can get back to it at any time by clicking Settings in the Navigation Bar.

  1. Turn on Enable custom (replicated) url's in closing buttons.
  2. Under Replicated Site #1, fill in the Field Title. This is what your rep sees when they add your presentation, so write it as an instruction. "Enter your company username" works. "Field 1" does not.
  3. Tick Require This Field if the rep should not be able to skip it.
  4. Fill in the link structure in the three boxes underneath. This is building out the pop-up your viewer sees when they add your presentation to their account. See the next section.
  5. Click Save Changes.

Step 2: set up the pop-up your viewer sees #

The three boxes are a label or hint on the left, sender will type here in the middle, and a label or hint on the right. Whatever your rep types goes in the middle. The two labels are the fixed parts of your link. The screen shows the pattern as ex: www.ABC.com/_____/DEF.html.

Four ways to build it, depending on where the custom part sits in your URL:

  • At the end. Everything before the custom part goes in the left box. Leave the right box empty. Example: idecide.com/username
  • In the middle. Everything before the custom part goes left, everything after goes right. Example: idecide.username.com
  • At the beginning. Leave the left box empty, put everything after the custom part in the right box. Example: username.idecide.com
  • The whole URL. Leave both boxes empty and the rep enters their entire link.

Step 3: use it in your presentation #

Setting the field up does not place it anywhere. You add it to your slides or buttons the same way you add any other personalization, like the viewer's first name.

  1. Select the text or button element.
  2. Click Personalization.
  3. Pick your custom field from the list. It appears under the Field Title you wrote, for example "Enter your company username (Custom Field #1)". If you didn't add a Field Title, it appears as [custom-field-1]

This is the step people get wrong. The custom field holds only what your rep typed. If you asked them for their username, it does not contain their whole link. So when you build a closing button, type out your full link structure and place the custom field where the customization goes, exactly as you set it up in Presentation Info.

iDecide.com/[custom-field-1]

This is the decision that shapes everything else. Ask for the smallest piece you can, because you can always build the rest of the link around it.

Ask for the username when

You want to control where the viewer lands. If you hold the rest of the URL, you decide the page. Your rep only supplies the part that identifies them.

iDecide.com/pricing/[custom-field-1]

You have several products with different purchase URLs. Point each buy now button at its own product page with the username added, instead of asking your rep to enter four or five separate links.

iDecide.com/product1/[custom-field-1]
iDecide.com/product2/[custom-field-1]
iDecide.com/product3/[custom-field-1]
iDecide.com/product4/[custom-field-1]

Ask for the whole link when

There is only one destination and you are happy for your rep to supply it. The custom field then holds a complete link, so your button URL is the field on its own.

[custom-field-1]

Your reps' links have no shared structure. If every rep's URL is randomized there is no pattern for you to build around, so ask for the whole thing.

What your rep sees #

When someone adds your presentation to their Back Office, they get a pop-up with your Field Title and a box to type in. Whatever they enter is dropped into every place you used that field, automatically. They never open the builder, and they cannot change your content.

Tip: Test it before you roll it out. Publish, give your iDecide iD to one teammate, have them enter a test value, then click the closing button as a viewer would. Five minutes now beats finding out from a rep whose commission did not track.
