Viewer’s Location In the Presentation

Location Basics

iDecide uses AI to identify the viewer’s location at the time they’re watching the presentation. This is dynamic text that updates each time the presentation is watched — it will not just display text you enter in their contact field.

If you are testing or viewing a presentation link that was generated for a Contact, the location displayed will reflect your location—because you’re the one currently watching it.

When your Contact views the presentation, the system will display their own location at the time they watch it.

Location is Showing a Neighboring City

Here’s what’s going on behind the scenes, in simple terms:

  • The Geo-Location feature looks at the IP address of the device that is watching the presentation.
  • Every device has an IP address, and that’s what tells our system “where” the viewer is.
  • Different internet providers, servers, and browsers sometimes hide or “fuzz” the exact location to protect user privacy. This is true on any website that uses IP-based location.
  • Mobile phones, especially when they’re not on Wi-Fi, are often less accurate because their IP can be tied to a wider area (like a region or city, not a specific town).

A few examples that might help:

  • If you watch 5 different links from the same phone, they will likely all show the same location, because your phone is using the same IP address each time.
  • If 5 different people watch their own links, each from their own devices / networks, they will each see the location based on their own IP address.
  • When Your Viewer watches from their device and connection, their IP address will be different from yours- even if you’re in the same town. That gives our system a separate reading from the one you see when you test the links yourself.

We do understand why accurate location is important when you’re using personalized presentations, and we are always trying to make the location services more and more accurate!
