iDecide reads the location from the IP address of whatever device is watching, at the moment it is watching. It is not pulled from anything you typed into the contact record, and it updates every time the presentation is played.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Why you see your own city when you test<\/h2>\n

If you open a link you generated for a contact, the location shown is yours, because you are the one watching. When your contact opens their link on their own device, they see their own location.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Why it sometimes shows a neighboring city<\/h2>\n

  • Every device has an IP address, and that is what tells our system where the viewer is.<\/li>\n
  • Internet providers, servers and browsers often blur the exact location to protect privacy. Every website that uses IP based location has this same limitation.<\/li>\n
  • Mobile phones off Wi-Fi are the least precise, because the IP can point at a whole region rather than a town.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

    Two examples<\/h2>\n

    • Open five different links from the same phone and all five show the same location, because the phone has the same IP each time.<\/li>\n
    • Five different people opening their own links from their own devices each see a location based on their own IP.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Even if you and your viewer are in the same town, their reading will differ from yours, because their device and network are different.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

      Location basics<\/span><\/h1>

      iDecide uses AI to identify <\/span>the viewer\u2019s<\/b> location at the time they\u2019re watching the presentation. This is dynamic text that updates each time the presentation is watched \u2014 it will not just display text you enter in their contact field.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

      If you are testing or viewing a presentation link that was generated for a Contact, the location displayed will reflect <\/span>your<\/b> location\u2014because you\u2019re the one currently watching it.<\/span><\/p>

      When your Contact views the presentation, the system will display their own location at the time they watch it.<\/span><\/p>

      Location is Showing a Neighboring City<\/span><\/h1>

      Here\u2019s what\u2019s going on behind the scenes, in simple terms:<\/span><\/p>

      • The Geo-Location feature looks at the\u00a0<\/span>IP address\u00a0of the device that is watching<\/b> the presentation.<\/span><\/li>
      • Every device has an IP address, and that\u2019s what tells our system \u201cwhere\u201d the viewer is.<\/span><\/li>
      • Different internet providers, servers, and browsers sometimes\u00a0<\/span>hide or \u201cfuzz\u201d the exact location<\/b>\u00a0to protect user privacy. This is true on <\/span>any<\/span><\/i> website that uses IP-based location.<\/span><\/li>
      • Mobile phones, especially when they\u2019re\u00a0<\/span>not on Wi-Fi<\/b>, are often less accurate because their IP can be tied to a wider area (like a region or city, not a specific town).<\/span><\/li><\/ul>

        A few examples that might help:<\/span><\/p>

        • If\u00a0<\/span>you<\/b>\u00a0watch 5 different links from the\u00a0<\/span>same phone<\/b>, they will likely all show the\u00a0<\/span>same location<\/b>, because your phone is using the same IP address each time.<\/span><\/li>
        • If\u00a0<\/span>5 different people<\/b>\u00a0watch their own links, each from their\u00a0<\/span>own devices \/ networks<\/b>, they will each see the location based on\u00a0<\/span>their own<\/b>\u00a0IP address.<\/span><\/li>
        • When\u00a0<\/span>Your Viewer<\/b> watches from their device and connection, their IP address will be different from yours- even if you\u2019re in the same town. That gives our system a separate reading from the one you see when you test the links yourself.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>
